Kerry, very early and naturally, fell into a music career with her song evangelist parents. Her natural abilities for singing, especially harmonies, are a gift from God.

Kerry attended Olivet Nazarene University where she met her husband, Larry Powell. Kerry’s degree in Elementary Education and her administrative skills have served the couple well throughout their married life of ministry that has taken them to a handful of different states over the last 30 years. More recently, Kerry finished the course of study to fulfill the call of God on her life into ordained ministry. She was ordained as Elder in the Church of the Nazarene in April 2021.

Kerry is our Worship Pastor. She has been pointing people to Jesus for a very long time. She counts this a privilege and a great blessing. When she was younger, she was often embarrassed with her talents and was uncomfortable when folks would compliment her musical talents. In a heart to heart with her mom, Kerry was gently reminded that it was nothing she had done to earn this ability; it was a gift from God. Her mom helped her see it was her job to give it back to God, and He could use it however he saw fit. Kerry could get behind that thought, and it has always helped guard her heart with a sincere humility. Larry and Kerry have 3 brilliant children. Caleb, Clark, and Cameo are young adults, each pursuing their own careers and dreams. They have brought great joy and pride to their parents. They are kind and loving people who genuinely care for others.

Kerry has several favorite Bible verses. Here is one she especially loves:
“The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14

Pastor Kerry loves all four seasons, especially crisp fall days and snowy winters. She enjoys yard work and can even wield a chainsaw! But what really warms her heart is grabbing a cup of coffee and going for a drive with Larry.

Rev. Larry Powell

Lead Pastor

Minister/Geologist/Husband/Dad

Pastor Larry Powell (PL) grew up in a family of seven in the village of Oxford, Michigan. His father and grandfather were carpenters and Larry spent many summers building houses. Though he left Michigan when he joined the Army immediately following high school, he still loves to root for the University of Michigan. His biggest challenge in ministry is loving the Ohio State Buckeye fans in his congregation.

After returning from his assignment in Germany, PL attended Olivet Nazarene University. He planned to be a physical science teacher. These plans changed when he felt called into ministry his junior year. He graduated with a B.S. in Geology with plans to attend seminary after graduation. His plans changed when he and his wife Kerry were appointed to a small church in rural Illinois in 1990—two weeks after they were married. Four years later they did make it to Kansas City where Larry graduated from Nazarene Theological Seminary. Their first church after seminary (1998), was the Oxford Church of the Nazarene. Although Midwesterners at heart, most of their ministry has been in the Southeastern, Pennsylvania—an area of the country they love.

Pastor Larry met his beautiful wife, Kerry, on the first day of classes his freshman year. He told his buddy that summer that he found the girl he wanted to marry. It took him several semesters to convince her, but Larry married Kerry in November of 1990—they have been married and in ministry ever since. They have three grown children who are brilliant like their dad and gorgeous like their mom.

PL tells people that he is in the ministry because God so radically changed his life that he wanted to spend the rest of it telling people that God is not only real, but that he can change their lives for the good in ways that are unimaginable. He shares God’s word in ways that are easy to understand and loves to tell a funny story when he can.

One of PL’s many favorite verses:
Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

At his leisure, Pastor Larry can often be found taking relaxing drives around the tri-state area with Kerry, picking up a piping hot coffee along the way. He also enjoys golfing, hiking, trips to Chick-fil-a, yardwork, home improvement projects, and most recently… letting the wind blow through his hair when he takes late night rides on his motorcycle. Well, not really “blowing through his hair” because he does wear a helmet. Plus, he doesn’t really have much hair.

Heather and Justin have been married 15 years and have 5 boys and 1 daughter. Their oldest is a Freshman at Mid America. (Go MNU!) and their youngest is still in diapers. As you might imagine, there is always plenty of noise in their home! They also have a giant dog named Phoebe Palmer who protects them from trash trucks.

Heather is passionate about sharing her faith and life with children and their families. She looks for opportunities to disciple and train children to become leaders. Matthew 5:16 is important to Heather as she reflects on her life and how God has placed so many people in her life who “let their light shine” in such a way that not only led her to Jesus but then encouraged her to grow in her faith.

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

When Heather gets a free moment, she enjoys coffee, napping, coffee, shopping, decorating and coffee. She loves to meet friends at the local coffee shop on Saturdays to share a cup of coffee and catch up on life.
